Hamilton threw him a hat to wear on the podium and he threw it back at Hamilton. Pretty rude. Yeah, dude, you lost again, but don’t take it out on your teammate, bruv. He’s just a better driver than you at the end of the day. And Hamilton keeps trying to send positive vibes towards Nico but he’s just not having it.

Hamilton ran him off the track.

If Nico was too meek to allow that’s his own fault.

It doesn’t matter, he should have expected that in turn 1. He failed to defend Hamilton.

You mean he should have expected Hamilton to be a petty douchebag who just has to have the win? This is exactly why I stopped watching F1.

With such an unpredictable race, he had other chances to take the win.

Yeah, but he got the lead back during pit stops and couldn’t keep it. No reason to take it out on your teammate.

Wat? It’s petty to want to win every time you go out and race? That’s ridiculous; while not a realistic expectation for all drivers, every driver wants to win every time they go out on the track. Of course you have to temper expectations and be smart in keeping the season in mind but they wouldn’t be racers if they didn’t want to win.
It was a fair move to take the lead at the start. Nico gave up that opportunity the second he let Lewis make a better start than him. As soon as Hamilton was alongside he had the inside line and could do with Rosberg as he pleased.
Nico got the lead back in the race and kept making errors, giving the race lead back to Lewis and the championship with it. That’s his own fault, no douchebaggery on Hamilton’s part.
Much as I don’t care for Lewis’ persona off track, he’s proven time and again that he’s the superior driver and Nico will have to step up his game if he wants to best him over the course of a season.

Keep in mind that Nico is german*, and there is no bigger shame for a german than not to achieve total world domination. For us it is the equivalent of losing a war.

Nico shouldn’t let Lewis bully him off track. If he just held his space and Lewis hit him, who’s at fault?

If Nico had tried to take the line and remain on track he would have hit Lewis and only punished himself with the resulting damage. He’s smarter than that and stayed out of it. Lewis’ move was brash but being on the inside and being able to make the corner as he did gave him control over that move. The driver on the outside has to rely on the one on the inside to leave that room and if the one on the outside isn’t clearly alongside exiting the turn, the inner driver doesn’t have to give that room.
Realistically, the best thing for Nico might have been to brake earlier and try to get Lewis on the undercut rather than try to hold the outside line where Lewis could put Rosberg where he wanted. But hey, hindsight is 20/20 and it’s different from the driver’s seat.
The race wasn’t won or lost at the first corner though, both drivers knew that and Nico got the lead back later and looked in control of the race until his bobble after the second safety car. He lost the race and any further chance at the championship there and only has himself to blame.
Lewis has outsmarted and outraced Nico throughout the last two seasons and has consistently come out on top when battling directly with his teammate on track. If Nico wants to take it to Lewis, his wheel to wheel racing skills will have to improve.

Nico’s problem is that he’s a really, really, really, REALLY good driver while his teammate is a great driver.

Yep, he is fantastic as a driver, but when it comes down to who is a better driver in the same exact car, his teammate is miles better.

Exactly. At least if it was Seb beating him, in his head he could put it down to the car. But you know damn well the German Mercedes team is giving their German driver the same equipment as the Brit, so the only conclusion you can draw is that Lewis is quicker. Plus, Nico has a tendency towards unforced errors when he’s in pressure spots like today.

From the few F1 races I’ve watched, he cracks under pressure. In the back of his head I know he realizes this but ignores it and puts it all up to bullshittery by Hamilton when it isn’t.
The other thing is that Hamilton likely sets his car up much better than Nico’s, because I’m sure both have their cars set up to their preferences.

Rosberg had gotten up when Hamilton first walked into the room and congratulated him with a hug and a handshake. He clearly didn’t take kindly to Lewis tossing him the 2nd place hat, but do you think Lewis actually meant to be a jerk by tossing it to him? Hard to tell...
